The Monkees Live in Japan / October 1968
In late 1968, The Monkees toured Australia and Japan. In Japan, one of the concerts was filmed (most likely during the two day, three-concert stay at Budokan Hall in Tokyo on October 3 and 4, 1968) and later broadcast on Japanese television. The audio recording and video footage, however, has never been officially released. The audio (straight from the video) does exist as a bootleg (which can be heard here, complete with Japanese voice introductions before each song), but the video footage is presumed lost or destroyed. Monkees archivist Andrew Sandoval has confirmed that multiple attempts have been made to find the missing video footage. "It was definitely broadcast and there has been communication with TBS [Tokyo Broadcasting System) in Japan to retrieve anything they had," he wrote on Facebook in 2017. "We asked many times and have been told they have nothing. Unless they made a film print of the video, it is unlikely it survived."
Please note there are breaks between each track.
Micky Dolenz: vocals/drums; Davy Jones: vocals/tambourine/drums/bass; Michael Nesmith: vocals/guitar; Peter Tork: vocals/bass/banjo/keyboards. The Floral provided instrumental support during the individual Monkee solo spots (Mike's "Johnny B. Goode," Davy's "Gonna Build a Mountain," and Micky's "I Got a Woman").

First time hearing this! 👍👍 It's been disputed that the monkees were offered Sugar Sugar, he could be thinking of a separate meeting held later or perhaps another song with a similar title (like Sugar man which is an outtake from the headquarters sessions), but also... Sugar Sugar hadn't even been written yet at that time.

Even though their music was written for them, these guys still delivered vocal and acting performances that helped make the songs and the band huge hits. I loved watching them play every week on TV at seven years old, and I still love it on UA-cam at 64! RIP Davey, Peter, and Mike.
